Chair by Jean Prouvé, 1950, called "Métropole no. 305." It combines the frame construction of the earlier "Chair No. 4" (the Standard Chair) with the mounting method of Prouvé's wooden models. The rear uprights are flat and shaped to carry the load evenly. The front legs are curved tubes, welded to the inside of the rear uprights. A brace connects the two rear uprights. Cut and bent rather than carved or joined by hand, these parts give the chair an industrial character.
