The Ulm stool was designed by Max Bill, Hans Gugelot, and Paul Hildinger in 1954, at the Ulm School of Design in Germany. It was made in the school's own carpentry workshop, from donated wood, during a period when the school had little funding. Two solid side panels carry a flat top, braced by a diagonal bar set low between the legs. It serves as a stool, side table, shelf, or transport container. This example is signed by Max Bill underneath.
