The Kangaroo Chair, designed in 1955 as part of Pierre Jeanneret’s iconic Chandigarh series, embodies radical simplicity and unexpected poetry. Its organic, wave-like silhouette, a single line that widens and narrows, creates a dynamic, sculptural structure. Unlike the rest of the Chandigarh collection, which is defined by straight wooden beams and geometric forms, the Kangaroo Chair stands out with its fluid shape, rounded details, and elemental gesture.

More than just a form, the chair is a wave in balance. Its low seat reflects a sense of nonchalance and the Indian lifestyle, where sitting closer to the ground connects with something fundamental and grounded. Yet, its carefully carved shape also conveys elegance, combining simplicity with sophistication. This duality makes it one of the most expressive and iconic pieces of the Chandigarh series.
It is one of the most copied and falsified objects from the Chandigarh design collection.
