PJ-SI-59-B
"Cane Sofa", designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1955-1956, based on his "Kangaroo" chair (PJ-SI-59-A), one of the best-known Chandigarh designs. The seat is deep, with a wave-shaped profile that gives the piece its dynamic line. Three individual caned backrests sit side by side, divided by blade-shaped uprights that read, from behind, like a row of vertebrae. A stretcher beneath the seat ties the three-seat structure together. The open weave of the backrests is transparent, letting the supporting wood structure show through. Corners and edges are heavily rounded, unusual within the otherwise angular Chandigarh vocabulary.Dimensions:
