LC-14
LC-14, designed by Le Corbusier, first sketched in 1951, produced from 1952 for his own house, Le Cabanon, in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The multifunctional box serves as a stool, step, or side table, with a rounded cutout serving as a handle on five sides. There were several versions, since it was a popular item in Le Corbusier's late work. The first version was executed in chestnut for Le Cabanon. A grey painted version was made for the Unité d'Habitation in Nantes-Rezé. A version in solid wood was later produced for the Pavillon du Brésil in Paris, and then for the Heidi Weber House in Zurich. This version for Chandigarh, 1959, was designed in solid teak and integrated into the student hostels.
Each version was custom-made for its project and not available elsewhere, creating interiors which seek flexibility and simplicity.
