Designed around 1919 by Gerrit Rietveld, the Hoge Stoel belongs to the same design period as the Red and Blue Chair. Constructed from dark-stained wood with blue-painted ends, the piece uses geometric timber elements to define space without upholstery. It is an example of the De Stijl movement's structural logic, with most units produced by cabinetmaker Gerard van de Groenekan in Utrecht.
