Highback chair, known as Hoge Stoel, designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1919, two years after the Red and Blue Chair. A frame of square-section slats, crossing at the joints with their ends projecting beyond, carries flat boards for the seat and the high back. The wood is stained dark, each end painted blue. This example was made by Gerard van de Groenekan in De Bilt, Netherlands, circa 1940.
